Fourth Sunday After The Epiphany… 1/29/2017 (REVISED) *push*

NOT WALKING… (want to run with me?) *push*

O God, you know that we cannot withstand the dangers which surround us.  Strengthen us in body and spirit so that, with your help, we may be able to overcome the weaknesses that our sins has brought upon us; through Jesus Christ, your Son our Lord.

NOT WALKING… (want to run with me?)

The Sermon I heard from my pastor got me fired up… She was talking about the divisions of church.  I tend to agree with my brother Paul in his Letter to Corinth (1 Corinthians 1:10-17).  We are all called children of God and have the Love of Jesus in us… as children of God we should Be like Jesus.  That brings me to what I want to share with you today…

Matthew 5:1-12

The Beatitudes

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
    For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

*Please take note* A lot of this text is RED… These are the words of Jesus… Christ Jesus was an AWESOME teacher and an AWESOME example for us to BE like…

IT’s funny… on my way to church to hear about divisions in church I passed this church sign posted by Middletown Road

It so happens that this is paraphrased from the First Lesson that will be read this week…

Micah 6:1-8

Hear now what the Lord says:

“Arise, plead your case before the mountains,
And let the hills hear your voice.
Hear, O you mountains, the Lord’s complaint,
And you strong foundations of the earth;
For the Lord has a complaint against His people,
And He will contend with Israel.

“O My people, what have I done to you?
And how have I wearied you?
Testify against Me.
For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
I redeemed you from the house of bondage;
And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
O My people, remember now
What Balak king of Moab counseled,
And what Balaam the son of Beor answered him,
From Acacia Grove to Gilgal,
That you may know the righteousness of the Lord.”

With what shall I come before the Lord,
And bow myself before the High God?
Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings,
With calves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
Ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?

LOL… TODAY… I “FEEL” THE NEED TO SHARE WITH YOU A PART OF A PSALM WRITTEN IN THE OLD TESTAMENT OF OUR HOLY BIBLE… IT READS…

Psalm 138

I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
before the “gods” I will sing your praise.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
    and will praise your name
for your unfailing love and your faithfulness,
for you have so exalted your solemn decree
    that it surpasses your fame.
When I called, you answered me;
    you greatly emboldened me.

May all the kings of the earth praise you, Lord,
when they hear what you have decreed.
May they sing of the ways of the Lord,
for the glory of the Lord is great.

Praise for the Lord’s Mercies

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

Who forgives all your iniquities,

Matthew 4:12-23

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry

12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles:
16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.”

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Four Fishermen Called as Disciples

18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

21 Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Jesus Heals a Great Multitude

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

AWESOME… just AWESOME!!!

I, personally, find these writings amazing…

I am very thankful TODAY… THANKFUL THAT I CAN FINALLY SHARE WITH YOU A LESSON I WILL BE READING AT MY CHURCH…

1 Corinthians 1:10-18

10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

Christ the Power and Wisdom of God

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

THIS SCREAMS AT ME… (psalm 27)

WISE MEN SEEK THE LORD… *push*

Lord God, you showed your glory and led many to faith by the works of your Son.  As he brought gladness and healing to his people, grant us these same gifts and lead us also to perfect faith in him, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Wise men seek the Lord…

wise-men-still-seek-him_1

I had an AWESOME time at church last Sunday… So AWESOME, that I was moved to switch up my tradition of writing on The Week of The Second Sunday After The Epiphany on Tuesday; to sharing with you the Holy Gospel Today (Sunday)…

I also received a house blessing; however, I am going to put it in my car since I am on the move a lot… I think God understands. 🙂

20 + C + M + B + 17: Bless your home (in my case… my car)! Our homes are places of rest, places of hospitality, places of refreshment and love. At the beginning of each year Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Hershey encourages everyone to pray for God’s blessing on their homes. I want to share this information and blessing to my friends and family.

The glorious Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the coming of the wise men to the home of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The blessing of homes around the time of this feast, at the beginning of the new year, expresses the blessing of Christ born for us, and loving us wherever we are, and especially blessing our homes.

ONTO THE HOLY GOSPEL…

The scriptures I would like to share with you are written in the New Testament of our Holy Bible

John 1:29-41

The Lamb of God

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”

32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

The First Disciples

35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”

37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?”

They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”

39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).

40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).

AWESOME… just AWESOME…

Wise men seek the Lord…

How excited Andrew must have been.  He found what he was seeking!

THANK YOU GOD FOR WISDOM!!!

1/10/2017 – MY HOLY UNDERWEAR…

Today was cool… My church decided to help out a family in need in the community… We cleaned furniture that was taken out of the family’s home.  The home is to get new paint and new carpeting from our church.  This morning, I was seeking rags to use to help clean that furniture with… I WANTED TO USE SOME OLD BOXER SHORTS OF MINE THAT HAD A HOLE IN THEM… My Mom wouldn’t let me use my underwear…

MOM: No-one wants to see your underwear…

ME: YES… BUT, IT’S MY HOLY UNDERWEAR…

Needless to say, I didn’t bring ’em…

Remembering The Baptism of Our Lord… 1/8/2017 *push* (REVISED)

MAKE WAY (just do it)… *push*

Father in heaven, at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit.  Make all who are baptized into Christ faithful in their calling to be your children and inheritors with him of everlasting life; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

MAKE WAY (just do it)…

May you always have the Joy of the Lord…

(Nehemiah 13:30-31Galatians 6:14-18)

I am truly excited… This week on the church calendar we celebrate the baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ… I am going to share with you the scriptures I will be reading this Sunday later on in this post…  (you are always welcome to hear those scriptures in person)

IN THE MEANTIME…

I want to share with you the Holy Gospel accompanying those readings found in the “Lutheran Book of Worship” aka our Hymnal…

REMEMBER – THE HOLY GOSPEL ARE SCRIPTURES WRITTEN OF JESUS’s DISCIPLES FOUND IN THE NEW TESTAMENT OF OUR HOLY BIBLE.

Matthew 3:13-17

John Baptizes Jesus

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”

15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

This is AWESOME… John was well aware that Jesus Christ is Lord… He felt unworthy of the task at hand.  I can imagine John’s thoughts at that time.  “Who am I to baptize the Lord?”

John illustrated faith… He had no idea that the Spirit of God from heaven was going to claim Jesus Christ as His beloved Son…

HOWEVER, JOHN DID WHAT WAS RIGHT… HE BAPTIZED OUR LORD…

To me, doing what is right brings joy and happiness… I pray that you, my beloved, find this joy and happiness.

That’s pretty hard thing to do in a world full of temptation; however, to mimic one of NIKE’s slogans… JUST DO IT…

(Jeremiah 17:9-10Luke 11:2-4)

I HAVE FAITH THAT THIS WILL BRING YOU JOY AND HAPPINESS…🙂

Remember, please visit this post throughout your week for my encouragement on your own personal walk with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior… Blessings!!!

THANK YOU GOD FOR TODAY!!!

I had something really cool happen to me this morning on my way to the gym to workout…  MAY I SHARE THIS WITH YOU???

I went to apply for a part-time job at HR BLOCK that is located right next to the gym I was at… A VOICE FROM HEAVEN REMINDED ME TO SHARE WITH YOU A STORY OF SOMEONE ELSE WHO WAS A TAX COLLECTOR…

Matthew 9 – The Voice (VOICE)

He got back in the boat, crossed the sea, and returned to His own town. When He got there, some men approached Him carrying a mat. On the mat was another man, a paralytic. The men evidently believed that Jesus could heal the paralytic, and Jesus saw their faith, how much faith they had in His authority and power.

Jesus: Rest assured, My son; your sins are forgiven.

Now some scribes and teachers of the law had been watching this whole scene.

Scribes and Teachers (to themselves): This man is blaspheming!

Though they had only spoken in low whispers among themselves, Jesus knew their thoughts.

Jesus: Why do you hold such hardness and wickedness in your hearts? Look, is it easier to say, “Your sins are forgiven,” or “Get up and walk”? To make clear that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins (turning to the paralytic man on the mat), Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.

And the man did. When the crowd saw this, they were amazed, even a little scared, and they praised God who had given humans the authority to do such miraculous things.

Later Jesus was walking along and He saw a man named Matthew sitting in the tax collector’s office.

Jesus (to Matthew): Follow Me.

Matthew got up and followed Him.

Today is my Mom’s Birthday… It is also recognized in the church calendar as the Epiphany of the Lord… What do you think this means?

Epiphany (/ɪˈpɪfəni/ ə-piff-ə-nee), also Theophany[1] or Three Kings’ Day,  is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God in his Son as human in Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity, the feast commemorates principally (but not solely) the visit of the Magi to the Christ child, and thus Jesus’ physical manifestation to the Gentiles. Moreover, the feast of the Epiphany, in some Western Christian denominations, also initiates the liturgical season of Epiphanytide. Eastern Christians, on the other hand, commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his manifestation to the world as the Son of God…

To me… I agree with Peter in the second Lesson I will be reading at church…

1/7/2017 –

Acts 10:34-43

34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. 36 The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all— 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they[a] killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

AWESOME… HUH???
